Join us April 22-27, 2007, for a week dedicated to shipwreck exploration in the Dominican Republic, at Pirates Cove. The purpose of this program is to offer divers of all skill and certification levels a chance to improve your dive skills, meet world-class wreck divers, explore new ideas, have some fun, and get your hands on some high-tech hardware.

Every day you will have the option of diving on one of the 6 boats we have heading out to different locations. You can dive with our experts, search for wrecks, explore a cave, take a class, sit in on a workshop, or just enjoy the beautiful weather on the beach. It is up to you. In the evening, we will have presentations that we hope will enlighten and inspire you.

SORRY...SOLD OUT! - MARCH 31, 2007
Pirate’s Cove Dive Center

John Mattera is the owner of Pirate’s Cove and he has worked hard to make his place one of the best equipped tech shops in the world! Gases, cylinders, absorbent, you name it and they have it. As for the diving, the DR has beautiful, warm, Caribbean waters, great visibility, shipwrecks and some of the best cave diving in the world!

Hardware

We are bringing in everything we need to find and explore shipwrecks and will actually be looking for new targets to dive. All this takes place in the area where Pirates Cove has legally obtained salvage rights from the government of the Dominican Republic.
We have:
     Sidescan Sonar
     Magnetometer
     Video Ray ROV
     HD Video & Still cameras

Instruction

We are sponsored by the world leader in technical dive training; TDI. We will be supporting a number of instructors who are bringing their students to the event, as well as referring interested students. This is wonderful environment for students to take courses in Nitrox, Cave, Wreck, Decompression, Trimix, and even Rebreathers.

Workshops

We are offering a variety of interactive workshops. These are opportunities for attendees to find out what the experts know, and then take that knowledge directly into the water. This is what we have:

Still Photography for Wrecks – We have two of the worlds best wreck still photographers, Leigh Bishop from the UK and Cris Kohl from the Great Lakes. They must know something?

HD Video on Shipwrecks –
Evan Kovacs has worked for TV and Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution. He will explain how to get the tough shots and will even bring some cutting edge hardware from WHOI.

ROV – Video Ray makes a small user friendly ROV that is currently in use all over the world. The US Navy has 40 of these things! This workshop will show how it works and what it can do.

Sidescan Sonar & Magnetometer – Klein makes the worlds best sidescan sonar! There is no better way to learn how to use sidescan and magnetometers than to get them in the water. That’s what we intend to do.

Presentations

The days will be full of workshops and diving, but at night you can sit back, relax, and enjoy presentations by some of the world’s most successful wreck explorers!

Sir Robert Marx – Nobody has written more books about treasure, or found more treasure, than Bob Marx. We can’t wait to find out what he knows about Hispañola!!!

John Chatterton – The former Deep Sea Detective and Shadow Diver will talk about his current projects as well as what is happening at 20th Century Fox!

Leigh Bishop – Lusitania, Britannic, etc, etc, etc. Leigh likes liners, the English Channel, and taking pictures.

Cris Kohl – What is wreck diving like when the wrecks are perfectly preserved, as in the Great Lakes? The author tells all.

Evan Kovacs – Regardless of whether he is shooting video for Deep Sea Detectives, Digging for the Truth, or in Alvin, how did this guy get his job?
